Stubbs & Stubbs is a father and son law partnership which evolved from the original sole proprietorship founded by Attorney Barry Stubbs in San Francisco in 1952.  Attorney Brian Stubbs joined the practice in 1978 and in 1990 Barry Stubbs and Brian Stubbs formed the present partnership in San Mateo, California. Stubbs & Stubbs offers high quality legal services to individuals and families in each of the areas of our practice.  We strive to provide prompt, efficient and individualized attention to our client’s needs.  Our primary areas of practice are Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law, and Family Law.

Estate Planning
The primary mission of our law firm in estate planning is to achieve in a cost efficient and timely manner the goals of our clients in the preservation, administration and transfer of their assets.

Revocable trusts are often a preferable alternative to wills providing lifetime and post mortem property administration and trusts for children as well as avoiding the costs of probate.  Clients with minor children can nominate guardians for their children.

Durable powers of attorney for property management can often avoid the need for conservatorships.

The Advance Health Care Directive enables clients to appoint a health care agent and to express instructions regarding end of life care.

The following is a list of some of the tools and approaches which are used to accomplish those goals:
- Revocable living trusts, wills, ante-nuptial and property agreements.
- Intervivos gifts and fractionalization
- Irrevocable life insurance trusts
- Probate and Trust administration, income, gift and estate counseling.
- Durable powers of attorney for property management and for health care

Family Law
We emphasize a compassionate, professional and prompt approach to resolution of the issues present in custody determinations in parenting relationships as well as support and property division issues in the dissolution of marriage. Clients are advised of their rights and responsibilities under the law, are encouraged to achieve a clear recognition of the issues and adopt an approach which will result in their best interests.
